Volunteer

Concordia University, host of the 2010 Congress for the Humanities and Social Sciences at Concordia University (May 28 to June 4), invites you to apply for a short-term volunteer position.

Becoming a volunteer at Congress 2010 is a unique opportunity to be a part of the largest event in Concordia's history. Along the way, you will gain new perspectives on many different topics, and be able to show your Concordia pride to both delegates in attendance and the general public. As well, this is an opportunity to network with people from many different professions, explore future possibilities and enrich your CV. Whatever your skills, we'd be happy to have you take part!

To support over 9 000 delegates that will visit our campus, we will need the aid of knowledgeable, helpful volunteers. Some volunteer tasks include:

  • Assisting delegates with wayfinding
  • Distributing Congress materials in the registration area
  • Greeting/ushering delegates at large events
  • Handing out/collecting headsets for simultaneously-translated events
  • Escorting disabled or elderly delegates to their meetings
  • Monitoring and fixing Congress directional signage
  • Answering questions about Concordia’s campus and area
  • Answering questions about IT/wireless internet
  • Campus couriers

Ideally, volunteers would be available for three or four shifts of approximately four hours each. Congress will be at its busiest from May 30 to June 2, so the more help we have, the better!

As the Congress is a bilingual event, we welcome an assortment of English- and French-speaking volunteers. Speak both? Even better! Knowledge of Spanish is an asset as well.

Please complete the Volunteer Position Application form. If you have any questions, please email: congress2010@concordia.ca.
