UPDATE: Repairs to the major interceptor are complete. The raw sewage dump ended Saturday, November 14.

The City of Montreal is disposing untreated waste water over the course of approximately the next 7 days in order to repair an interceptor. During this time, raw sewage is going directly into the St. Lawrence River.

This interceptor collects waste water from the following areas:

  • LaSalle
  • Verdun
  • Sud-Ouest
  • Ville-Marie
  • Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve
  • Rivières-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles

Please help minimize the impact

Concordia’s campuses are both in affected areas. When you are on campus, please avoid flushing the following down the toilet:

  • Facial and baby wipes
  • Diapers, Cotton ear swabs
  • Hair, dental floss, tampons, condoms
  • Medications
  • Cooking grease

In fact, these items should never be thrown in the toilet.

If you live in an affected area, consider following these tips at home over the course of the waste disposal:

  1. Avoid doing laundry, if possible
  2. Use biodegradable, phosphate-free detergents
  3. Don’t drain your pool

Thanks for doing your part. Please pass the message on.
