Concordia University


The Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies makes it possible for graduate and undergraduate students in various disciplines to learn from and study with recognized scholars.  The activities of the Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies are coordinated by an Academic Advisory Group comprised of Concordia faculty who are actively engaged in cutting-edge academic research about Israel in a wide range of areas, including political institutions; the peace process; media and communications; religious, gender and diasporic identities; the Holocaust. The activities of the Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies include:

  • Promoting faculty-based projects and fostering research and teaching that contribute to the study of Israel in all of its facets, locally, nationally and internationally
  • Hosting regular lectures, conferences and events by recognized scholars and world renowned experts
  • Supporting visiting professors as well as graduate students through graduate fellowships and student exchanges
  • Collaborating with Concordia academics already involved with or interested in Israel Studies, as well as other researchers in Montreal and throughout Canada.
  • Promoting teaching, research and scholarship

Institute Library

The Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies has created an Israel studies research library in the Samuel Bronfman building.  The books and journals are in English, French and Hebrew and cover a range of topics, such as Religion, Political Science, History, Holocaust and Languages.  The library is made possible through Institute purchases, Concordia University academics and others from around the world, the Azrieli Foundation, the Canadian Jewish Archives, the Montreal Jewish Public Library, various publishers, and people who are connected to the Institute.

Ongoing research

The Azrieli Institute of Israel Studies reinforces and supports on-going research by its members in a number of areas prioritized by the University Strategic Research Plan.
