Dr. James McHugh

Dr. James T. McHugh is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Akron as well as Fellow and Director of Academic Planning for the Ray C. Bliss Institute of Applied Politics at the University. Dr. McHugh is also currently President of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States.

Dr. McHugh has served as Chair of the Political Science Department at the University of Akron as well as Lecturer in Political Science at the University of Vermont. He was also the Fulbright Distinguished Chair of North American Integration at Carleton University of Akron. Dr. McHugh is  a former Public Policy Scholar for the Canada Institute at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC, and the former Associate Director for the Center for North American Studies at American University in DC.  

McHugh's published scholarship spans several books and articles, including The Senate and the People of Canada: A Counterintuitive Approach to Reform of the Senate of Canada. Dr. McHugh studied at the University of Vermont, the University of Edinburgh, and Queen's University in Kingston, where he earned his Ph.D.
