Advances in genome research are making it easier than ever to edit DNA. CRISPR technology (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) now allows virtually anyone to re-write genetic code. While this technology has enormous scientific potential, ethical questions persist. How far are we prepared to go when it comes to editing genes?

Join host Professor David Secko (Department of Journalism) as he examines these questions with a panel of Concordia experts.

Speakers

Professor Alisa Piekny (Department of Biology)
Professor Vincent Martin (Department of Biology)
Adithi Krishnan (Department of Biology)
Professor Matthew Barker (Department of Philosophy)
Professor David Morris (Department of Philosophy)
Professor Francesca Scala (Department of Political Science)

Reception to follow.

This event is free and open to the public. Space is limited, registration is required.

Beyond Disciplines is an ongoing series of public events designed to highlight interdisciplinary research throughout Concordia’s Faculty of Arts and Science. These events are intended to encourage discussion on the major questions of the day, from a variety of viewpoints.
