The Global Governance of Biodiversity: The role of the CBD and the challenges ahead

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is the first global agreement to cover all aspects of biological diversity: the conservation of biological diversity, the sustainable use of its components and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources. The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD), based here in Montreal, Canada, was established to support the goals of the Convention.

About the Speaker

Dr. Dias has over three decades of experience in biodiversity science and policy and its implementation at the national and international levels. He brings a unique combination of scientific training and extensive experience in negotiation.  Dr. Dias has been invovled in the CBD since the early 1990's, including over 5 years with the Secreteriat.
