Creation

Creative Writing students have many opportunities to write and connect with writers — in and out of the classroom.

Writers Read

The tradition of literary readings at Concordia predates the existence of the university itself, as such events were held well before Sir George Williams and Loyola merged in 1974. The series, now known as Writers Read at Concordia, invites renowned and emerging authors, both Canadian and international, to read from and discuss their work with students and local audiences. In addition to readings, the series includes master classes and professional development activities, some open to the public and others only for Concordia students.

Off the Page

In March 2016, Writers Read & Concordia University hosted the Off The Page literary festival. In cooperation with the Université de Montréal and Librairie Drawn & Quarterly, we hosted Ben Lerner, Anne Boyer, Jordan Abel, Sonnet L’Abbé, and more. Students also contributed insightful and thought-provoking papers, poems and creative projects that explored varying topics, and were presented and discussed at the three-day festival.

Student groups and journals

English students are active in our department, hosting and co-hosting many literary and scholarly events, publishing their own journals, and building a strong feeling of community amongst students.

Student groups

Both the Concordia Association for Students in English (CASE) and the Student Association of Graduates in English (SAGE) sponsor events, publish journals, hold talks, and contribute to the department's dynamic intellectual and artistic community.

Soliloquies Anthology
