Professor Vivek Venkatesh, associate professor in the Department of Education, will introduce an initiative entitled SOMEONE (SOcial Media EducatiON Every day) which was created to sensitize youth, educators and the broader public to patterns of online hate with the goal of building resilience against hate speech and radicalization.

The multinational and interdisciplinary team of researchers and practitioners in the SOMEONE initiative has developed an online portal of curricula and multimedia materials designed to counter hate speech by developing critical thinking skills.

The materials in the portal include white papers, documentaries, interviews with experts, creative art-based performances, graphic novels, ideas for classroom activities, as well as mobile and social media feeds designed to counter a variety of forms of online hatred.
