SM2ART: SUPPORTING MEANINGFUL MATHEMATICS ACTION THROUGH RESEARCH AND TRAINING

The mathematical lives of children and adults matter. Meaningful and relevant engagement with mathematics at all levels ensures understanding and confidence. Children and adults often struggle to make sense of mathematics, however, which can hinder critical thinking and discourage students from pursuing STEM-related careers. The Supporting Meaningful Mathematics Action Through Research and Training (SM2ART) Symposium will bring together leading scholars in education and psychology to address how research can inform practice in a variety of settings, including the home and the classroom. Panel speakers and audience members will generate fruitful discussions about what it means to learn mathematics with meaning and how to support mathematical thinking in our communities.
