Natality names the fact that we were each born new into an old world. None of us asked to be born, none of us chose our parents, and none of us was given the opportunity to select when, where and among whom we would come to be. Are there other ways in which we affront our natality?
Human cloning, anti-miscegenation laws, the enslavement of Africans in America, the residential schooling of Native Americans and the use of solitary confinement in U.S. prisons have all been critiqued in natal terms. This lecture investigates the grounds for those claims.
