Abstract: This talk will present an overview of the emergence of mathematics in India beginning with the representation of astronomical knowledge in altar ritual. It will also describe early Indian logic and linguistics that culminated in the great grammar of Sanskrit by Panini in 4,000 algebraic rules. The lecture will also go over scientific texts that make a distinction between associational and transcendental knowledge.
