Libraries

Concordia University Libraries provide information resources and services that are fundamental to learning and the pursuit of knowledge.

Funding of Concordia's libraries

The Georges P. Vanier Library on the Loyola Campus and the R. Howard Webster Library on the Sir George Williams Campus are dynamic research and study spaces that serve more than 44,000 full-time and part-time students, as well as faculty members, staff and local residents.

While technology has dramatically transformed the format in which information is available, it has significantly increased costs for libraries.

An agreement between Quebec universities to share pooled resources helps tackle the rising costs, but licence restrictions frequently prevent libraries from sharing their electronic resources and Concordia must continue to acquire the texts required for teaching and research.

The combination of increasing costs, growing number of library users and the university’s rapid growth compels Concordia University Libraries to seek revenue sources that will provide support for collections in perpetuity and adapt to the ever-shifting landscape of remote learning and digital communication. Improving the richness of information available to both in-library and remote users brings value to the university and its academic mission.
