As vice-president of Advancement and Alumni Relations(AAR), I think it’s essential that we refine our tools to further engage our alumni. That’s why Accent has been given a more modern and readable look.

For Accent readers who visit Concordia’s main website, you might recognize our aesthetic influences.

And more progress is coming. Expect added content about you, our alumni and alumni association chapters. We have countless inspiring stories to share about Concordia graduates worldwide.

We’ll also feature more podcasts and videos to diversify your Accent experience. These electronic reports will enrich our story lineup.

I’m delighted to have recently joined Concordia — a university with an impressive 160,000 alumni. So far, I’ve met graduates in Montreal, Vancouver and Hong Kong and their achievements have impressed me. I’ll soon travel to New York City on chapter business and I’m eager to hear more from Concordians who are now industry captains, award-winners, benefactors and beyond.

Concordia has 23 alumni chapters in 10 countries — testimony of our diversity and the enduring bonds between the university and our graduates. I hope to visit you in as many alumni chapters as possible — from Boston to Beijing — to discover our common affinities.

And with Homecoming on the horizon, September 27 to October 4, I’m certain I’ll meet more great grads.

As for this latest issue of Accent, I encourage you to read our heartwarming story about Jad Saleh, a Lebanese student who selflessly donated his scholarship from the Association des ingénieurs-conseils du Québec to create an award for fellow students.

Our lineup includes a review of Concordia’s recent Donor and Student Awards Celebration with a video report by student journalist Michel Boyer. We also have a short item on Quebec native Thomas Bachelder, BA 81, who left a career in communications for winemaking.

This is just a sampling of what’s in store for Accent. We’d love to hear what you think, so please let us know at alumni@concordia.ca.

Happy reading!
