Please join us as guest speaker Sami Girgis, BEng 89, MBA 98, gives a talk called “Technology Challenges for Small Aero Engines." Girgis works at Pratt & Whitney as a  Manager Installation and Turbine Aerodynamics and is a Fellow of  Aerodynamics.

His presentation will follow the Engineering and Computer Science Alumni Chapter's annual general meeting.

Sami Girgis

Sami Girgis has been a member of Engineering at Pratt & Whitney Canada since completing his B. Eng Mechanical at Concordia in 1989.

In 1998 he assumed the role of Manager of Turbine Aerodynamics. In this capacity, he assumed responsibility for all aspects related to the concept design and technology development as well as turbine performance development. In 2006, his responsibilities expanded to include the development and implementation of technology development strategies across Engineering aimed at protecting as well as improving the company’s competitive advantage.

In 2007, Girgis assumed the role of Manger Global Engineering and was responsible for all aspects of Engineering’s activities at all Global sites. In 2009, Sami assumed the role of Manager of Installation and Turbine Aerodynamics where he was responsible for all aspects related to the concept design, technology development as well as performance development of engine inlets, exhausts and Turbine components.

Sami was made Fellow of Aerodynamics in 2012 and is currently responsible for the Aerodynamics discipline across Pratt & Whitney Canada.

Sami Girgis has been lecturing at McGill and Concordia Universities since 2000, and has been giving the Gas Turbine Design course at Concordia University since 2012.

He is currently a member of l’ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, and holds a Masters in Business Administration from Concordia University.
