Our featured book is Pulitzer Prize winner The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz (New York: Penguin, 2007). It’s a tale about lovable, overweight Oscar, who lives in New Jersey with his traditional mother and rebellious sister. He dreams of becoming another J.R.R. Tolkien and finding love. But his family, originally from the Dominican Republic, has been cursed for generations and its members have been condemned to prison, tortured, suffered tragic accidents, and, above all, known ill-starred love.
