Teaching English as a second language
The TESL Chapter creates excellent networking opportunities with industry professionals and fellow graduates who are now working in a variety of fields.
Maria Lee-Arpino, BEd 89
Maria Lee-Arpino, has taught English as a Second Language in both primary and high schools in Montreal for a number of years. She has written didactic ESL material and has been published many times over. She has also taught English in Madagascar and is active in helping fight poverty and illiteracy there.
Roxana Burchi, BA 01, BEd 06
Roxana Burchi discovered her passion for teaching from newly arrived immigrants to whom she taught English for seven years. After completing her first bachelor degree at Concordia in translation and working as an editor for Honeywell, she decided that teaching was her calling and went back to Concordia to get a degree in TESL. Since then, she has been teaching Enriched English to high school students for the Des Affluents school board.
Heather Miller, BA 87, BEd 98
Heather Miller was a full time high school teacher for 15 years but has recently made the switch to cégep, and now teaches ESL full time at the Institut de technologie agroalimentaire – Campus Saint-Hyacinthe. An avid cyclist, she has done many long distance trips with friends; she loves to be physically and culturally active and has volunteered for the Terry Fox Walk, Les Grands Ballets and the Y des Femmes.
