Meet Concordia students from the Middle East

Zeina Jhaish

Kuwait City, Kuwait
Pursuing a BEd in Teaching English as a Second Language, with a minor in Études françaises

My parents are Palestinian, I was born in Montreal, but I’ve spent most of my life in Kuwait City. Coming to Concordia was a whole new experience — especially being here in winter.

I’m getting an internationally recognized education and I’m doing a degree that will let me live anywhere. And it’s very affordable, which is a factor too.

For me, it was important to find a diverse environment, where I would be surrounded by people who are like and people who are different from me. My department is very supportive of the students and it feels like its own community.

Hazem Akil

Beirut, Lebanon
Pursuing a BEng in Civil Engineering

I’m happy I chose Concordia because I’m going to graduate with a very strong degree, one that will let me work in many places. I’ll be in a good position to start a career. It also made a lot of sense price-wise to come to Concordia.

I’d never been to Montreal before I moved here to go to Concordia so my first winter was very exciting. What I love about Montreal and especially Concordia is that it’s very multicultural.

You meet people from all over the world and get exposed to different values and different ways of thinking.

Massa Berrached

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Pursuing a BComm in Economics

When friends come visit me in Montreal, I show them around the School of Business and they are always struck by how nice it is. It’s a good vibe on campus! Everyone is smiling all the time and people are very friendly, open-minded and accepting.

I had an entrance scholarship and so far I’ve been able to maintain my grade point average. You have to put in a lot of work, but it’s worth it - you see results. The profs are always available and very helpful. You have the support you need to be successful.

Permission to live and study in Canada

If you’re not already a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you can apply for your study visas as soon as you have an offer of admission from the university. Concordia’s International Students Office can help you every step of the way.
