Selection and next steps
Concordia carefully reviews all the credentials of each candidate. A final decision on an application can be made only once we have received all the required items.
Under no circumstance can the University guarantee that an applicant will be admitted.
Criteria for Selection
Academic Performance
Concordia admits students with a wide variety of academic backgrounds. Decisions are based on a holistic assessment of the applicant’s dossier and the availability of places in a program. However, admission is competitive. The minimum cut-off averages are to be used only as indicators. The actual cut-offs may vary with the application pool in a given year.
Special Requirements
Admission to many programs is also based on additional requirements. These are listed in the appropriate program sections. (See Program-specific requirements)
Cegep Students
The Côte de rendement au collégial (CRC) is a method of comparing and ranking Cegep applicants. It measures how far above or below the class average a student is, with adjustments based on the relative strength of the student within the group.
We receive a CRC for:
- each academic course a student has completed,
- the last program the student was registered in, and
- overall for all the courses completed at Cegep.
For admissions decisions, Concordia uses the program CRC as long as the calculations include at least 16 academic courses; failing that, we use the overall CRC. In some competitive programs, the CRC for specific prerequisite courses will also be considered.
Applications that do not meet the CRC requirement for competitive programs are reviewed holistically to determine if any extenuating circumstances might have adversely affected an otherwise acceptable record.
Conditional Admission
You may be granted conditional admission to a program on the basis of your records of study to-date. Records should include your mid-year results for the current year. Final admission is contingent upon successful completion of the final term or semester of study and satisfying the academic admission requirements.
If you receive an offer of admission, you will still need to do a few things:
Confirm your Admission
If you have been granted admission, you must pay a $100 (CAD) deposit to confirm your intention to enter the University. This deposit is non-refundable but will be applied toward your tuition fees at the University. If you do not pay your confirmation deposit by the date specified in your admission letter, your offer of admission may be cancelled.
If you receive a conditional acceptance based on your mid-year results and are subsequently refused admission because you have not satisfied the academic requirements, your confirmation deposit will be refunded.
Book an Advising/Orientation Session
Be sure to read your offer of admission carefully and consult the Registration Guide: registrar.concordia.ca/webguide
Advising is required by some new students before they will be allowed to register.
Register for Classes
Most students can and should register for both the upcoming Fall and Winter Terms as soon as they become eligible. Registering early ensures maximum course and section availability. Students register online through the MyConcordia.ca portal.
Apply for Housing
You can apply for residence only once you have received a conditional or final offer of admission, confirmed your acceptance and paid the $100 confirmation fee. Space is limited and available only to full-time first-year students aged 17-22 who live further than 50 km from Montreal.
If you do not get a space in residence, the CSU Off-Campus Housing Bank can help you find a room, apartment or roommate.
See Housing for more information.
