If you are not a Canadian citizen or a Permanent Resident of Canada and wish to study at Concordia University as an Independent Student you must meet with a counselor from the Office of the Registrar.
If qualified for admission as an Independent Student you will be mailed a “Letter of permission to register at Concordia”. You will be directed to the International Student Office (ISO) for further information about the procedures regarding immigration regulations.
Please note that you will not be permitted to register for your courses until after your visit to the International Students Office.
Copy of CAQ and Study Permit or Copy of Passport to Concordia University:
In accordance with directives from the Quebec Ministry of Education, all International students must have in their university file a copy of their CAQ and Study Permit, or a copy of their passport if they are admitted to Concordia University as an Independent student for 6 months or less.
You must bring a copy of your documents to the International Students Office (Hall Building, room 653) before the DNE deadline of your first semester at Concordia, and thereafter every time you renew your immigration documents. Failure to submit these documents to the University before the deadline may result in the cancellation of your registration.
Tuition Fees for International Students are much higher than those for Québec students. Students on a Diplomatic Visa with a letter from the "Québec Protocol Office", dependents of foreign workers holding certain categories of work permits, and French citizens may be eligible to pay the same fees as Québec students.
Compulsory Health Insurance for International Students fees are charged automatically to all International students who are registered for courses at Concordia. This is a requirement of Quebec Immigration and the Quebec Ministry of Education. Contact the International Students Office to pick up your health insurance card and information about the plan.
