This is a full-time, two-year contract position.

Scope

Reporting to the Principal Director of Development within the Faculty, the Development Officer is responsible for the Faculty’s fundraising activities as they relate to major gifts.

Primary responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Principal Director of Development, identify the faculty priorities and create the case for support which clearly explains the Faculty’s investment opportunities.
  • In collaboration with key stakeholders, develop a faculty specific fundraising strategy; implement the development plan as identified by the Department of Advancement and Alumni Relations – while maintaining good working relations with fundraisers, faculty and staff.
  • Research and develop gift proposals aligned with donors’ interests.
  • Plan and execute personal canvassing campaigns including the recruitment and solicitation documents, and other pertinent fundraising materials.
  • Develop relationships to support other fundraisers in proposal-writing in response to priorities.
  • Ensure that gifts are appropriately stewarded over the short and long term.
  • With the support of the Alumni Officer and other stakeholders, identify and qualify potential major gifts donors and develop significant relationships with them with the goal of securing major gifts.
  • Participate in the Prospect Management Committee of the Department of Advancement and Alumni Relations.
  • Recruit, train, and the support volunteers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in a field related to the primary responsibilities and two to four years’ experience in a fundraising role with a proven track record in implementing personal canvass programs in the solicitation of major gifts
  • Good spoken and written English (level 4) in order to provide advice and support to various associations and committees, and to prepare proposals, correspondence, and reports. Good spoken French (level 4) in order to communicate with alumni and external contacts.
  • Self-motivated and an innovative planner; persuasive and able to influence and convince; detail oriented.
  • Resourceful and independent yet works well in a team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Word (in order to create and format documents), Excel (in order to work with spreadsheets and create reports), PowerPoint (in order to create presentations and Access (in order to input and update information in a database).
  • Exceptional interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire others (volunteers and staff).
  • Proven proposal and presentation skills.

Salary

$57,922.98 – $69,223.33 per annum
