Scope

Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Technology and Systems, the incumbent is responsible for server administration and applications to support IITS and Concordia University.

Primary responsibilities

  • Resolve server problems coming from the University community and provide effective remedies.
  • Provide user support and training.
  • Provide guidance and training to the junior consultants within the group.
  • Maintain and support in-house systems.
  • Maintain awareness of microcomputer/server technology and software.
  • Recommend assimilation of potentially useful products or services into supported product lines.
  • Evaluate users’ current microcomputer hardware and software needs and recommend appropriate improvements.
  • Install new microcomputer/server hardware and software.
  • Assist users in the selection and purchase of microcomputer/server hardware and software and install them as needed.
  • Assist in the production of documentation for users and for the department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another field related to the primary responsibilities and two to four years of relevant work experience, including at least two years of experience in at least two desktop computer platforms.
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience in installing, configuring, optimizing and securing server software (Windows Server 2003 /2008 edition, Red Hat Enterprise Linux ) including such services as Active Directory, Group Policies, Terminal Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, IIS,.
  • Experience/knowledge of VMware,
  • Excellent knowledge of and working experience working with networking protocols such as TCP/IP, Net BIOS over TCP/IP.
  • Experience working with server hardware, as well as network equipment server and PC hardware.
  • Good spoken English (Level 4) to give and understand detailed explanations and descriptions and basic written English (Level 3) to prepare short, routine correspondence; spoken French an asset.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving capabilities.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
  • Dedication to providing exemplary customer service.

Salary

$57,922.98 - $69,223.33 per annum
