Note
This is a part-time contract position, working 21 hours per week, effective until February 28, 2014.
Scope
Reporting to the Manager, Enrolment and Student Affairs, the incumbent admits, counsels and guides students from the time of application to a program in the Faculty of Fine Arts until the completion of the program.
Primary responsibilities
- Evaluate and make decisions on undergraduate and graduate applications for admission to the programs of the Faculty.
- Interview, counsel and advise prospective and current students on academic matters; advise staff, students and faculty on University policies, procedures and deadlines.
- Evaluate, research, make decisions and respond to student requests; evaluate and respond to requests for re-admission from students in failed standing, investigate and solve graduation problems.
- Assess and review student applications to study abroad in terms of course relevancy, transferability and applicability into Fine Arts’ programs.
- Monitor, review and evaluate incoming International Student Exchange applications and requests.
- Participate in recruitment and other student affairs-related activities as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a field related to the primary responsibilities and two to four years of related work experience in an academic setting, preferably in Fine Arts.
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English (Level 4) and good knowledge of spoken French (Level 4) in order to communicate with prospective and current students, as well as other institutions.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word (to communicate admissions and student request decisions) and basic knowledge of Excel (to assemble and manipulate statistics).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with prospective, current and former students, faculty and staff members.
- Ability to work under pressure for extended periods of time, take initiative and work independently and within a team environment.
- Availability to work flexible hours on occasion (e.g. for special events).
- Previous work experience in the area of student life is an asset.
- Knowledge of Canadian educational and international educational systems is an asset.
- Knowledge of the Faculty of Fine Arts’ and the University’s curriculum, academic rules and regulations is an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of the Student Information Management System (SIMS).
Salary
$57,922.98 - $69,223.33 per annum
