Scope
Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Technology and Systems, the incumbent manages and supports high-performance computer systems running Unix, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.
Primary responsibilities
- Develop software tools for use in system administration.
- Configure, help maintain and provide advice on security.
- Ensure smooth operation of systems, including monitoring and tuning system performance.
- Liaise with vendors.
- Manage computer accounts.
- Investigate operating system and application software and recommend solutions.
- Upgrade operating systems and other software, including patch applications.
- Install and configure new systems, recommend upgrade paths and configuration changes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or in a field pertinent to the primary responsibilities and two to four years of work experience in system administration. Experience with Linux preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer security issues, including access controls, authentication, encryption, logging, and monitoring.
- Experience in programming and scripting: languages including shell, C, Perl, and Python.
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English (Level 4) in order to provide complex information, clear explanations, and prepare documentation intended not only to peers but also to end-users. Spoken French an asset.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, with diverse groups of people.
- Self-motivation, responsibility, and willingness to work irregular hours in case of emergencies.
Salary
$57,922.98 - $69,223.33 per annum
