One of Canada's most innovative urban universities, Concordia University, has in recent years invested significantly to renew its faculty, improve and expand its infrastructure and create state-of-the-art facilities for teaching, learning and research. Aligned with these investments, the University is strongly committed to the development of top-notch graduate education.
Concordia has 7,000 staff and a total of 46,000 students. With a graduate student population of 7,300, it currently offers over 100 graduate programs. Concordia is also the only university in Canada offering an Erasmus Mundus PhD program.
The over-arching mandate of the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies is to: lead efforts that enable the University to achieve the highest possible standards in graduate studies; ensure sustainable growth and competitiveness; intensify the presence of graduate and postdoctoral studies within the University and enhance their stature externally.
Reporting to the Vice-President, Research and Graduate Studies, the Dean leads in examining best practices nationally and internationally, and in promoting innovative approaches to program and professional training development and delivery at Concordia. S/he oversees the administration of the Masters and PhD Individualized (INDI) programs, which foster interdisciplinary training and incubate novel program development.
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or equivalent, a strong record of research and graduate supervision, and the ability to function in French. S/he will have a record of successful, proactive, innovation-oriented leadership and, above all, a passion for the role that graduate studies can play in the development of healthy and progressive universities and their communities.
Candidate consideration will begin in April/May 2013, continuing until the position is filled. The initial appointment is for five years, renewable for an additional five years.
