Amended posting - Working hours: 4pm to 11pm. This position will be required to work day and evening shifts and weekends on rotation

Scope

Reporting to the Computer Operations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for providing guidance to faculty and staff as well as providing training on the use of equipment in the computing facilities.

Primary responsibilities

  • Monitor computer systems, networks, and peripherals in a multi-server environment.
  • Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems.
  • Monitor the environment and security of Data Centres
  • Record problems and action taken
  • Participate in overall operational management of all academic and administrative computing facilities and services.
  • Set controls on computer and peripheral devices.
  • Assist with testing and debugging new programs.

Requirements

  • Diploma of Collegial Studies (3-year technical program) in Computer Science or in relevant discipline and at least two years of related work experience OR Diploma of Collegial Studies (2-year general program) in relevant discipline and three years of related work experience OR Bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrated experience in servicing computer systems.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Windows and Mac OS platforms. Experience with UNIX and Windows operating systems desirable.
  • Knowledge in server software and database technology.
  • Experience and ability to provide effective training to clients.
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English (Level 4) and basic spoken French to provide support to users.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and exception skills in researching solutions for technical issues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-deadline environment
  • Physical ability to perform primary responsibilities (e.g. crawl, crouch and climb as well as lift printers and other equipment on a regular basis) as attested by the successful completion of a medical evaluation to the University’s satisfaction.

Salary

$19.25 – 28.90 per hour
