Note
This is a full-time contract position effective until December 31, 2013.
Scope
Reporting to the Academic Services Director, the incumbent provides academic advice to JMSB undergraduate students and supports the JMSB’s mission to maximize student satisfaction with their educational experience, particularly international students.
Primary responsibilities
- Meet with undergraduate students to help students in matters relating to their academic pursuits and career aspirations.
- Evaluate students’ academic records for degree and program requirements.
- Respond to student queries concerning programs and general information.
- Advise students facing academic difficulties (students on conditional standing and readmitted students) and monitor their academic performance.
- Assist in delivering advising sessions for new students.
- Support the student recruitment activities: assist the Student Recruitment Office in visits to CEGEPs and meet prospective students.
- Deliver advising sessions for students on conditional standing and readmitted students.
- Assist the Director in academic advising projects as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and two to four years of related work experience.
- Good knowledge of the university academic regulations.
- Very good spoken and written English (Level 5) to provide detailed information and compose documents; good spoken French (Level 4) and basic written French (Level 3) to communicate with the public. Knowledge of a third language is an asset.
- Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word (to format letters, and do mail merge), of Excel (to create and format spreadsheets, do graphs, and calculate formulas) and knowledge (Basic level) of PowerPoint (to prepare presentations).
- Experience in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Aptitude to work in a service-orientated environment and dedicated to helping students succeed.
- Team-player with the ability to work independently.
- Familiarity with the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) undergraduate programs and the Concordia Student Information System (SIS) are assets.
- Teaching experience at the university level is an asset.
- Must be available to work outside normal working hours (e.g. special events).
Salary
$57,922.98 - $69,223.33 per annum
