Scope

Reporting to the Director, Internal Communications, the incumbent ensures the timely coordination and dissemination of news and information across the university, using print and digital communications tools, including website and social media platforms. The incumbent performs light editing and proofreading of materials and provides administrative support to the Internal Communications team.

Primary responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a weekly production calendar and line-ups for the NOW e-newsletters for students and for faculty and staff.
  • Provide light editorial support (writing, copyediting, proofreading, fact checking), meeting the standards established by UCS, and maintaining liaison with members of the UCS creative team, freelance writers, interns, and Concordia staff to ensure that all materials are delivered on deadline for publication or posting.
  • Gather information and stories and post content on the NOW news and events section as well as on MyConcordia portal for students, and for faculty and staff.
  • Gather, coordinate, and disseminate content on digital screens across the university in a timely manner; develop a weekly schedule and work with internal stakeholders and external contractors.
  • Coordinate special projects that contribute to achieving the university’s Strategic Framework and UCS’s strategic direction.
  • Disseminate information about Concordia news, events, and activities, as well as NOW stories through social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
  • Serve as a member of the emergency communications team, providing administrative support to the Director, Internal Communications, in disseminating information in a timely manner, using print and online tools and social media platforms.
  • Maintain planning documents to support the flow of information across the university, including for the NOW e-newsletters and digital screens.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, or other related field and two to four years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a university communications area or a similar public relations operation; understanding of the university milieu. Experience in print and online news production as well as web and web-based news and information dissemination.
  • Demonstrated skills in writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Good spoken and written English (Level 4) to review and modify content; basic spoken French (Level 3) for routine communication.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; ability to use software for posting stories on the web.
  • Ability to be a team player and function well in a fast-paced, client-focused environment; ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Diplomacy, tact, creativity, and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to analyze a problem and to take initiative.

Salary

$52,449 - $62,681 per annum (Pay Equity adjusted salary scale)
