This is a temporary replacement position effective from February 3, 2013 until December 20, 2013.

Scope

Reporting to the Department Administrator, the incumbent ensures the efficient development and operation of the internships placements for the graduate and undergraduate programs in the Department of Political Science. The Internship Coordinator maintains cordial relationships with the many public, para-public and industry offices for internship placements and has regularly scheduled on-site visits with employers to ensure the quality of work by the students.

Primary responsibilities

  • Ensure the placement of students for internships with the public and private sector, including seeking internship opportunities for students and meeting with students in order to find a placement match.
  • Develop and run workshops for students on c.v. preparation, job search skills and the interview process.
  • Respond to both internal and external enquiries about the undergraduate and graduate internships programs.
  • Screen students for internships
  • Maintain cordial relationships with the many public, para-public and industry offices for internship placements; regularly meet on-site with employers to ensure quality of work by the students.
  • Meet on a regular basis with students during their internship placements to ensure smooth working experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Public Administration or related field and two to four years of experience in the placement of internship and co-op students with the federal, provincial, municipal government as well as private industry and non-governmental organizations.
  • Good spoken and written English and French (level 4) to effectively communicate with the University community and produce handbook and program pamphlets for publicity purposes;
  • Good knowledge of Word (able to format letters, lists and contracts as well as do mail merges); of Excel (able to use mathematical and financial calculations), of PowerPoint (able to create and edit animated presentations) and of Access (able to join tables and run queries). Previous experience using Outlook and the Internet.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, University policies and procedures.
  • Accuracy, attention to details and good judgment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; ability to work with minimal supervision as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to work outside normal hours and travel to Ottawa, to Quebec City, and around the Montreal area when required.

Salary

$57,922.98 - $69,223.3 per annum
