Scope
Reporting to the Manager, Administration of the PERFORM Centre, the incumbent manages regulatory compliance with federal and provincial agencies for all core areas of PERFORM. He/she assumes all responsibilities of the Radiation Safety Officer as described in the Regulatory Guide G-121 and acts as the main liaison with the department of Environmental Health and Safety, the Office of Research and the Office of the General Counsel.
Primary responsibilities
- Act as PERFORM’s Radiation Safety Officer in accordance with the regulations of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and ensure, in collaboration with the University’s Hazmat and Radiation Officer, Radiation Safety Committee and its Chair, that research activities involving radioisotopes and radiation devices are in full compliance with the PERFORM Centre’s regulatory licenses.
- Coordinate training, inspections and monitor reporting as well as communications for the PERFORM Centre; act as primary point of contact for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and the “Laboratoire de Santé Publique du Québec” (LSPQ).
- Work with the Office of Research on developing and reporting PERFORM’s compliance procedures to meet the requirements for the ethical conduct of research involving human subjects.
- Audit and report on compliance with policies and procedures and guidelines from external regulators and advisory groups.
- Provide advice, assistance, support and training to the PERFORM Centre staff on PERFORM’s Compliance programs as requested, as per the standard operating procedures and operating documents.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Sciences or in a field related to the primary responsibilities two to four years of experience inan imaging, healthcare or clinical research environment.
- Certification of training as Radiation Safety Office from a training institute recognized by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission or member of the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists desirable.
- Good spoken and written English (level 4) in order provide detailed information to internal and external clients and to prepare and elaborate on reports, correspondence and documents.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Superior communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve as well as take initiative and follow through on projects.
- Physical ability as attested by successful completion of a medical evaluation to the University’s satisfaction (i.e. work in an environment that includes high magnetic fields, radiation, biohazards and hazardous materials).
Salary
$57,922.98 - $69,223.33 per annum
