Note
This is a permanent full-time position (5-day workweek, working from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) with occasional overtime/weekend work required during peak usage times and critical events.
Scope
Reporting to the Manager, IITS-Cinemas, the incumbent is responsible for the operation of cinema facilities during afternoon and evening hours. He/she trains and functionally supervises casual and contract staff who provide primary services to the academic, student, staff, and administrative users as well as externals clients.
Primary responsibilities
- Perform regular equipment maintenance, installation, troubleshooting and first-line repair.
- Secure external repair services for equipment as required.
- Consult on staffing and organize resources for the projection and analysis of 35 mm and 16mm film, Digital Cinema and video as well as any other media required for the teaching of courses and needs of internal and external clients.
- Functionally supervise casual and contract employees and participate in the hiring, training, scheduling and assignment of duties.
- Enforce regulations as specified in the City of Montreal by-laws regarding the operation of public cinemas.
- Inform, consult and provide technical support to faculty, students, staff, and externals clients in the use of cinema and instructional technology in their programs, curricula, projects and events.
Requirements
- Professional DEC (3-year technical program) in a field related to the primary responsibilities and four years of relevant experience in a non-commercial, art-house and/or special venue public cinema OR Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the primary responsibilities and two years of relevant experience in a non-commercial, art-house and/or special venue public cinema.
- Good spoken and written English (Level 4) to plan and communicate with staff, faculty and students; basic spoken French (Level 3) to understand verbal instructions.
- Advanced knowledge of a variety of technology: film, audio, digital cinema and both high definition and standard definition video in a wide variety of professional and consumer formats.
- Experience with a wide variety of audio-visual and computer equipment.
- Good interpersonal skills, customer-oriented approach and ability to work under pressure.
- Good organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks, multitask and work both independently and as a team member.
- Physical ability as attested by successful completion of a medical evaluation to the University’s satisfaction (i.e. crawl, crouch and climb as well as lift media and equipment on a regular basis).
Salary
$21.44 - $32.29 per hour
