This represents an 18 month contract effective until March 2014.

Scope

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer of the PERFORM Centre, the incumbent is responsible for coordinating the planning, development and implementation of facility operations of the PERFORM Centre.

Primary responsibilities

  • Develop and review coherent and consistent PERFORM Centre policies and plan for facilities operations in support of research, training and community activities.
  • Oversee the integration of the PERFORM Centre systems, IT infrastructure, equipment areas and schedules.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to provide efficient, safe and controlled access to facilities within the context of available resources.
  • Oversee and coordinate the maintenance of card access system zones and key systems.
  • Ensure PERFORM Centre compliance with Health and Safety policies, space use policies, and external regulatory guidelines.
  • Liaise and consult with PERFORM Centre technical staff, Facilities Management, Security, IITS and Recreation and Athletics for facility-related issues.
  • Hire, train, schedule, assign work, monitor, evaluate, and motivate operations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline with four to seven years of advanced experience in a research-intensive environment of which five years in a supervisory/management position with responsibility in managing a complex interdisciplinary facility. Previous work experience in a unionized environment an asset.
  • Experience with the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures in a clinical research environment.
  • Experience with the facility requirements of researchers in the life sciences
  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of plans and/or systems.
  • Experience with scientific informatics systems and data management architecture and R&D workflow.
  • Good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written English and French to communicate effectively with the Concordia community as well as external partners.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as team player with the ability to forge consensus.
  • High level of personal initiative, innovation and flexibility.
  • Radiation safety, WHIMIS and first aid training or willingness to undergo training
  • Knowledge of building, fire and safety codes and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of technical requirements for exercise equipment, biomedical research equipment and computer software and databases assets.
