Note
This posting represents two positions.
Scope
Reporting to the Manager, Employee and Labour Relations, the incumbent promotes sound labour relations with all unions representing the University’s employees.
Primary responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, evaluate relevant facts and provide guidance and expert advice to Supervisors and Managers on issues respecting human resources and employee relations management, collective agreements, attendance and performance management and employee discipline, grievances and arbitration matters, Quebec labour legislation and regulations.
- Support management in responding to and resolving grievances and employee complaints and support the Office of General Counsel in preparing and presenting cases before an arbitrator or an administrative tribunal such as the Commission des relations du Travail.
- Ensure the implementation of decisions and agreements; negotiate and draft grievance settlements and letters of agreement.
- Participate in developing goals and strategies related to negotiations.
- Collect and analyze data and in view of preparing collective bargaining mandates as well as cost estimates.
- Develop and deliver training on labour relations and human resources management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations or a field pertinent to the primary responsibilities and two to four years of related work experience in a unionized environment.
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Industrial Relations Counsellor (CIRC) designation is desirable or eligibility to become a member if required.
- Very good knowledge of spoken and written English and French (Level 5).
- Knowledge of Word and Excel in order to create and format documents and spreadsheets.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and proven ability to work in a team, using a collaborative approach.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to multitask and to bring projects to successful and timely completion.
Salary
$61,010.00 - $70,788.00 per annum
