Provost, David Graham

David Graham joined Concordia University in 2005 as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, and became Provost and Vice-President, Academic Affairs in March 2008.

Before coming to Concordia, he served as Head of the Department of French and Spanish and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He is a specialist in early modern French literature with an MA and PhD from the University of Western Ontario and a BA from the University of Saskatchewan. He has also taught at the University of Western Ontario, the Royal Military College of Canada and Mount Allison University.

Graham’s research interests lie in the area of early modern illustrated books, particularly emblem books. He serves on the Board of the Society for Emblem Studies and on the Editorial Board of Glasgow Emblem Studies, and is currently Managing Editor of the journal Emblematica.

He has been active in a number of national organizations, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. He served as Academic Coordinator for the 1997 Congress of Learned Societies held at Memorial University, and is a Board member of the Fonds québécois de la recherche sur la société et la culture.
